Question 1.1. Discuss one project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain. The project that I felt didn't preform the best was the transparency final. I do not think I presented transparency with in my final project. I didn't come up with a creative image, I mostly used my own lunch snacks. The transparency was with the snack bags and there were snacks. The background was a black piece of paper, but behind the paper was a wooden table. I do not think I presented this table accurately and mostly opted out by using yellow and a brown not even creating a background. If I were to do something different with this project I would find different transparent objects to draw mostly because I didn't clearly show the jam jar of the bag of cookies. Question 2.2. What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium. My favorite medium was to work with pastels. Pastels are a very messy drawing tool, but can make the picture look more vibrant. pastels required a lot of layers when it comes to shading and creating depth. I was able to master techniques such as certain strokes to create the illusion of three dimensional space. Unlike pencil or charcoal you can use your figure to merge colors. The egg drawings I did have one were I did smear and the other I didn't. for the candy drawing some candies that had harsh highlights I used white to show lighting. Question 3.3. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making? a. I believe my style stems from my self teachings. A lot of my hobby work I do have a cartoonish or non-realistic which transfers over to my art a bit. I tend to stylize my work with out even noticing. Alot of the stylistic choices I use probably transfer over because I have seen such style or way of drawing. Example: My contour line drawings, as I practiced more I was told not to go over lines so I started avoiding the lines with each new modification of the drawing. Giving the drawing this style of some sort. b. What I find successful as an artist is if I have improved from the day before. If I look at my work from yesterday and the work from today, there is either clear improvement. Like a big jump, or small little things. Then I consider it a successful piece. These days of improvement do not have to be in a span of 1 day. These improvements can be seen from the beaning of the year. Example: The One point perspective drawing. My first drawing was my thought of one point, but with learning and practice I have made a better progress with my perspective drawing. c. What I find most rewarding is when I work some time and I like and appreciate the work I have done. Done right and wrong. When looking on work from the day before or week, month, etc, I can see what Worked well and didn't work well. Example: when I first did a shading drawing the cone wasn't very structured and the second drawing the cone looks more structured. d. The most important things I use when drawing is perspective, setting, 3 dimensional shapes and spaces. I find these important because when I draw a picture I like there to be alot of movement, or implied movement. I draw alot of characters as a hobby and for drawing projects I like to have a figure or animal under a spot light. Setting, lighting, shading, 3 dimensional shapes are very important. E. One of the most significant things I have learned was learning how volume/this base. I self taught myself in the beginning but because of this class it has helped me clearly grasp the volume as well as base. When I first drew trees they didn't really look like trees. Learning volume in the first week of class really did help. Question 4. |
